The days of rain

Posted by
karla (Omaha, United States) on 26 April 2011 in Plant & Nature.

We have had days and days of rain and low hanging clouds, with little break. I am not complaining -- this part of the country can be very dry. Despite the rain, the urge to take pictures overcame me. I grabbed the camera and ventured into the misty moisty weather, into the small world of my backyard.

Thank you for visiting! Your comments and suggestions are very much appreciated.

Barbara Kile from Ft. Worth, United States

Heavenly raindrops and love the selective focus. Great work!

@Barbara Kile: Thanks, Barbara! I had a lot of fun--it felt good to be outside and the wind cooperated, too. Sort of. ;-)

Larry Lefever from Lititz, United States

Beautiful! And I love the colors. The tulip is one of my favorite flowers and you've captured it's essence.

26 Apr 2011 8:59pm

@Larry Lefever: Thanks, Larry. I have a ton of tulip photos this year, since I also had a bouquet of them for the Easter dinner t able. Some of those will eventually be posted. Seems to me that Spring brings a rush of floral activity that is difficult to keep up with. Or maybe I am so enthralled that I take too many pictures!

Frida from Sweden

Such delicate flower and I love the droplets.

franz from Baden, Austria

superb closeup, great colours, dof and bokeh! love those drops on the petals - rainy weather does have good sides, too!

@franz: Thank you, Franz. Rainy weather can make color and lighting so lovely. Tree trunks are more defined when wet.

CElliottUK from Reading, United Kingdom

I glad you braved the weather to take this lovely shot

28 Apr 2011 7:10am

@CElliottUK: Thanks very much. I was happy, also because the wind has been rather wild around here lately and all those drops could have been blown right off before I captured them!

Laura from NorCal, United States

Beautiful! I think it'd be great fun to get a plastic cover for the camera so you can take your time in the wet! :)

28 Apr 2011 2:33pm

@Laura: A small plastic bag can be used to craft such a cover, perhaps a temporary one though. Somewhere I read about using an umbrella light stand to attach (with duct tape?) an outdoor umbrella for protection. For this backyard excursion, I was in between the heavy rain.

Arnd from Basel, Switzerland

Your venture into your rain-swept backyard was worthwhile – you returned with a gorgeous photograph. I really love the water drops on the flower bud!

28 Apr 2011 8:00pm

@Arnd: Thanks, Arnd! The rain had slowed just a bit at the right time. Good thing I had old shoes on my feet.
