This peony was given to me in the 1970s by a neighbor who was moving. She had dug out her peonies to take with her to her new home and gave me some extra roots of this white and two different pinks. She said all of her peonies originally came from her mother's garden. I wish I could verify what cultivar it is, but I can only guess. I remember a white peony just like this one, with the red flecks in the center, growing in my dad's garden in Buffalo, New York. Those roots had been passed along to him by a gardening friend who also gave him various flower seeds and stem cuttings for roses.

This lovely peony has a lot of history behind it. It is beautiful! For whatever reason, mine did not come up this year.

@Elaine Hancock: That's very unusual for peonies, not to at least put up some leaves.

A pristine beauty you've spotted here! A great standout against the verdant foliage.
